The Head of Digital Transformation is responsible for the strategic direction, security, and day-to-day performance of the organisation's technology estate, with particular ownership of the Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Business Central platforms. The role combines hands-on IT leadership with strong stakeholder management, acting as the bridge between business departments, external providers, and the wider transformation agenda. The successful candidate will lead technology-enabled change, project managing business transformation initiatives from scoping through to delivery.
Key Responsibilities
IT Leadership & Strategy
- Own the IT strategy and roadmap, aligning technology investment with business objectives
- Lead, mentor and develop the internal IT team, setting priorities and performance standards
- Manage the IT budget, including licensing, infrastructure, and third-party contracts
- Ensure robust cybersecurity, data protection, and business continuity practices across the organisation
- Maintain IT policies, governance frameworks, and compliance with relevant regulations (e.g. GDPR, ISO 27001)
Dynamics 365 & Business Central
- Act as the organisation's system owner for Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Business Central, overseeing configuration, upgrades, and ongoing optimisation
- Work with departmental leads to gather requirements and translate them into system enhancements or workflow improvements
- Manage relationships with implementation partners and Microsoft resellers to ensure quality delivery and value for money
- Oversee data integrity, integrations, and reporting across ERP/CRM systems
- Champion user adoption through training, documentation, and ongoing support
Cross-Department Collaboration
- Build strong working relationships with Finance, Operations, HR, Sales, and other departments
- Act as a trusted advisor, translating business requirements into practical, cost-effective technology solutions
- Chair or contribute to cross-functional working groups on process improvement and digital adoption
- Provide clear, non-technical communication to stakeholders at all levels, including senior leadership
Business Transformation & Project Management
- Project manage business transformation initiatives end-to-end: scoping, business case, planning, delivery, and post-implementation review
- Manage external providers and vendors, including contract negotiation, SLAs, and performance management
- Develop project plans, risk registers, and governance structures for change initiatives
- Lead organisational change management activity, including communications, training, and adoption planning
- Report progress, risks, and outcomes to senior leadership and, where relevant, the board
Person Specification
Essential
- Proven experience in a senior IT leadership role (IT Director, Head of IT, IT Manager, or similar)
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Business Central
- Track record of successfully project managing business transformation or digital change programmes
- Strong vendor and third-party provider management experience
- Excellent stakeholder management skills
- Solid understanding of IT infrastructure, networks, security, and cloud platforms (e.g. Azure, Microsoft 365)
- Strong communication skills, able to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
Desirable
- Microsoft certifications relevant to Dynamics 365 / Business Central
- Experience with ITIL frameworks or IT service management best practice
- Line management experience of technical teams
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
